There are a variety of supplements available these days to help enhance and improve the health, vitality, and general well being of your German Shepherd. Here we will outline the various supplements and their benefits.
As with any medication, supplements should only be administered to your dog after consulting with your veterinarian. |

Glucosamine: Glucosamine is beneficial in providing pain relief, cartilage protection, and overall joint health. It may help prevent and/or halt the progress of degenerative joint diseases or hip dysplasia. Your dog does not need to suffer from any particular malady to use Glucosamine - it can be used simply as a preventative measure to ensure healthy joints. |

Chondroitin: Chondroitin is often used in conjunction with Glucosamine in a mixture formulated to provide optimum care for joints. It has many of the same benefits of Glusosamine and is thought to be the more potent of the two. It may come in the form of "Shark Cartilege" - a natual source of glucosamine and chondroitin. Note that specially prepared Glucosamine & Chondroitin products usually contain other beneficial supplements such as Manganese, Ascorbate (Ascorbic Acid - Vitamin C), Omega Fatty Acids, etc. |

Vitamins E and C: Vitamin's E (tocopherol) and C may play constructive roles in the care and prevention of ailments such as joint maladies (HD), cataracts, cardiovascular disease, cancers, and even stress. Vitamin C is often seen in the form of Ascorbic Acid or Ester-C and these vitamins are often included in "total care" types of supplements, as well as skin and coat care supplements. |

Omega Fatty Acids: Omega Fatty Acids are used to improve the condition of skin and coats. They may help skin conditions (ie. dry or oily skin) and give coats a more glossy, healthy appearance. They may also help soothe muscles, tendons and ligaments, warranting their inclusion in many "total care" types of supplements. Omega Fatty Acids are typically seen in the form of Fish Oils, Flax Seed Oils, and other oils. |
